“At first I was afraid. I didn’t know how I was going to be treated because of my insurance. I didn’t know what type of place it would be. But it was beautiful.”

I am on state insurance. I was given a list of doctors and told to call around. I called and called, getting every answer but yes, we’ll care for you. I couldn’t find a doctor that would take my insurance. Finally, I ended up in the emergency room. It was there they told me to go to Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers and helped me make an appointment. I’ve been at Sixteenth Street ever since.

At first I was afraid. I didn’t know how I was going to be treated because of my insurance. I didn’t know what type of place it would be. But it was beautiful. The staff was nice, attentive and listened to your concerns. My first doctor was caring and patient, she explained everything to me step-by-step. I felt reassured and taken care of. Then my doctor left and my nerves returned. I remember a sweet MA telling me, “Don’t worry. Everyone here will take great care of you.” She was absolutely right.

Dr. Eash-Scott is my angel. She is kind, gentle and sincere. I have lived a very difficult life. There are problems from my past that I still fight today. Dr. Eash-Scott makes me feel like family. I can open up and talk with her. There are very few people I can say that about. In fact, I haven’t felt comfortable enough to talk with anyone about my past. I wasn’t able to face it. But Dr. Eash-Scott makes me feel strong. She gives me the courage to work through it. My depression is better. My stress has lessened. I can feel myself changing.

She has also helped me take a large step towards improving my physical health. I have diabetes and was uncontrolled for years. For the first time, my blood sugar is under control. I’ve lost weight, started exercising and completely changed my eating habits.

Dr. Eash-Scott isn’t my only angel at the clinic. Maria in Behavioral Health, Alba in Chronic Conditions and Sara in Social Services have all helped me more than I can say. Now I have all the benefits I need to cover my basic needs like food, and the mental and social support to stay motivated. I have found my peace here. I love my doctors and all the people who help me. It is truly special to have such a great team of people that truly care.
