After completing his medical school training at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee in 1990, Dr. John Dunn then completed a 3-year pediatric residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He then became board certified in pediatric medicine in 1994.

The entirety of his 30 years of practicing pediatric medicine has been devoted to caring for children at Sixteenth Street. His approach to patient care is emphatic listening and collaborative decision-making with patients and their families. He meets those he treats, along with family members, where they are in their decision-making process to encourage healthy lifestyle changes. His interests include childhood development, autism, and asthma care.

His personal interests include spending time with his wife and four children, along with training and competing in triathlons and travel with family.
