The Department is playing a major role in the redevelopment and revitalization of Milwaukee’s Harbor District. The Department’s bilingual community outreach and engagement efforts will ensure that new investment within the Harbor District generates economic, recreational and environmental benefits for families living on Milwaukee’s near south side.
Over time, a revitalized Harbor District will also help to complete a trifecta of sorts for the Department, which played a major role in jump starting the cleanup of the Menomonee Valley and the ongoing transformation of the Kinnickinnic River Corridor. Combined, these three districts wrap around the neighborhoods that are home to most of Sixteenth Street’s patient population.

Harbor District Tours are back for Summer 2016! Harbor District Inc and Sixteenth Street will host nine public bike, bus and boat tours of the Harbor District to give the community an opportunity to learn about our initiative and experience the Harbor District up close. In 2015, more than 100 tour attendees visited new investments in and around the UWM School of Freshwater Sciences, experienced the Port of Milwaukee’s facilities, and learned about current planning activities and future vision for the Harbor District (Tour Route Map).
